A spirited and battling 2nd XV fought hard but couldn't quite overpower a tough Barnstaple side. It was a fitting cup final between two sides who came to play in perfect conditions. An early Steve Ashford try in the first few minutes set us on our way but the North Devonians came roaring back enjoying a sustained period of pressure that saw them take back the lead via two tries. The game hung in the balance when after the sides traded further scores Will Humphreys nudged a last play of the half penalty over the sticks to send us to the sheds 17-19 down. In the second forty Barnstaple put their foot down and showed impeccable game management at the vital junctions as they slowly ground us down. Three tries for the visitors put them in the clear before Luca Helden scored a wonderful consolation. A brilliant match for the supporters on both sides to enjoy but sadly the spoils went Barnstaple's way meaning they move one step closer to a remarkable quadruple.
