Topsham 43-24 Brixham

Hook, Line and Sinker...Fishermen reeled in as Tops land a whopper

A brilliant eighty minute performance saw us steer our way past Brixham to advance to the next stage of the playoffs. It took just three minutes for us to record our opener when James Mattin and Dec Hadley combined to put us ahead. Brixham never took the lead in the encounter but did score the game's next two tries to leave us all square at 10-10. However a double from Lewis Webb who caused all sorts of issues for the Fishermen throughout stretched us into a commanding 22-10 advantage. A couple of traded tries followed and left the game in the balance at 29-24 with ten minutes to go before we delivered the knockout blow. Brixham attacking in our own half and with them looked set to stretch us outside Henry Batty siezed on a pass and raced three quarters of the length to all but win it. The visitors became increasingly more rushed in their attack and defence and Joe Cave cut them wide open in the dying stages from where a few moments later the outstanding Erin Inglis crashed over to seal it. A cracking win and one that sees us now face Stourbridge in the next round, the winner of that takes on Exeter Uni for a spot in National 2.
