We were made to work hard as a spiralling penalty count and plucky performance from the vistors took us the distance. An early penalty for the away side set the tone for their tactics as they drew first blood. We swiftly replied with a try to take the lead but that was a position we wouldn't see again until the second period. Royal Wootton Bassett defended impressively capitalising on our errors and ill discipline to carve out a 12-21 lead at the break. We were improved in the second period and started brightly with Dan Lock cutting the arrears, however again RWB chipped away and almost immediately struck their fourth penalty. A pin perfect Webb touch finder to the corner was converted by Robin Edbrooke at the base of a maul and we wrestled back the lead for the first time in almost an hour as the game ticked into the seventies. The drama was done yet though and a botched scrum just inside our half gifted the Wiltshire travelling support a third try to celebrate and although the conversion drifted they held a 26-29 advantage. Our accuracy had been off for much of the encounter but the restart to proceedings was anything but. A brilliant break and clip through from Hadley needed some finishing but George Holwill superbly gathered round his ankles to instantly hit back. Royal Wootton Bassett would have one final go at us following another of their many holding on pens at the breakdown but Tucker read their tip-on pass in our red zone to scamper clear with the pill and secure a narrow win.
