Tops defend HQ with sumptous win over Brixham

Brixham posed a real risk to our unbeaten home league record before kickoff and their threat was proven to be fully warranted. However as has not often been the case it was we who came flying out the gates. We raced into a 17-0 lead with Robin Edbrooke and Tristan Van Dyk both crossing in the early stages, Lewis Webb instrumental at 10. The Fishermen as expected began to rally from what theyd surely agree was a very poor opening showing. They kicked two penalties to get on the board but Mattin replied in kind to keep our score ticking over. We should have pulled further clear just before the half but some poor control from a five metre scrum let them off the hook. That said we wasted no time in picking up where we left off in the first half, Mattin nudged a third penalty over just two minutes into the second forty. The game then came alive as Brixham hit us with two converted tries in four minutes. They almost had a third in rapid time too. Having denied the opporunity to draw level they went for the corner where although we conceded a yellow card we held them out. As the clock ticked down the nervousness increased. There was little further action in each others 22 until Sam Westcott caused havoc for them on a kick chase. The outcome was a simple three more points for James Mattin. Brixham didnt mind too much knowing it gave them another shot back up the right end of the pitch with a seven pointer enough to steal the win. What followed was a superb set of defensive structures, exits and game management as we ran out the remaining time for a massive win.
A brilliant day at the club - thanks for all your support!
