Senior Round Up - Weekend 31st Oct & 1st Nov
Henry Justice
Terrifying Halloween weekend of results as TRFC teams winless
Topsham 12-27 St Austell
-Wasteful Tops undone by St Austell-
A frustrating afternoon of rugby ended in defeat to St Austell as we produced an eighty riddled with errors and inaccuracies. There was no doubt our absentees were felt but we still had sufficient fire power on the day to undo our visitors. An early try from George Tucker was testament to that. We soaked up various periods of attack from St Austell but a mistake in the backfield allowed them to level things before they were able to go ahead with a penalty kick just before the break. In the second period we enjoyed far more ball time but could only show a single Hugh Moore try for our efforts. This came moments after St Austell moved into a 5-13 lead and the response suggested a purple patch may follow. We came so close to taking the lead in what would have potentially been the catalyst we needed as Moore popped an offload off the ground to Cave following a smart break from the winger. The pass though wasn't quite aligned to the onrushing man and St Austell countered off the knock on to go the length and deal a gut-wrenching sucker puncher to go 12-20 up - a seven point swing in one play. Shortly after this their kicking game, which had threatened throughout, brought about their game winning score as they grubbered in behind. The last ten minute was dominated by us with the ball deep in their half but for all our efforts we couldnt find another, strips, knock-ons, forward passes and set piece inaccuracies as for the majority of the game again our nemesis. Congratulations to St Austell who were more composed and patient in their play and undeniably worthy winners. Tough one to take leaving us with two wins, two draws and two losses through the first six. A week off before a very testing run of fixtures lies ahead. If you've come this far and read all this considering the results then you must love the club so do us a favour and get your Fireworks tickets purchased...cheers!
