Topsham Colts started brightly as always and with a good squad to choose from, quality player availability countered any threat the Exeter Youth might bring.
The Colts immediately pinned Exeter Youth on the back foot and it seemed that it would only be a matter of time before points were on the board but Exeter were dogged and strong in defence and kept the Tops attacks at a respectful distance from the try line. The scrums were evenly matched in the first half but in the line outs Tops were dominant with Oz Martin competing for everything in the air lifted by Alex Taylor and Charlie Brook.
Eventually the pressure told on Exeter and Alex Taylor with a trademark rampage through the gain line and a ‘Sonny Bill’ pass to Oz Martin saw him get his third try under the posts in as many games this season. The simple conversion achieved by Gwyn Parks and the scoreboard showed 7-0 at half time.
The second half sees Tops again pinning Exeter back but now domination in the scrum is achieved and Tops demolish Exeter a couple of times and the forwards make good ground into good scoring positions and Alex Taylor picks and goes from a ruck to score easily under the posts which Gwyn converts. 14-0.
Exeter start to infringe and a penalty opportunity is taken and secured by Gwyn 17-0.
From further attacking moves a scrum 10m out sees Ed Smale snipe blind to score unopposed in the corner finishing the game 22-0.
The boys voted Will Bird Player of the Game for his big stint in the front row.
