Away vs Exmouth

Happy to get a run on the artificial pitch, after all the rainfall cancelled most grounds and games, the guys seemed up for it.
But it was yet again another slow start by us.
Exmouth came out very aggressive, screaming & shouting out loud. We seemed to be a bit taken aback so instead of rushing up to tackle them, we waited for their big powerful runners to get some steam up, which obviously wasn’t a great start.
Isaac started the match as he finished it; fighting tooth & nail for every inch of artificial grass, putting in some fantastic tackles!
Our boys were getting beaten in the breakdown area time & time again.
Joseph managed a few storming runs to score a couple of tries. Exmouth fought back, & by halftime it was even Stevens!
We started better in the second half with better aggression at the breakdowns, and started to dominate ever so slightly.
William Reuben scored a wonderful individual try, running from a ruck ball, & outpacing the defence. Joe Fordham followed shortly after with his very own kick & chase, which he received back straight away, before zig zagging his way to score in the corner.
There were other tries, but the real deal to come out of this match was the teamwork which showed everyone fighting for each other, & passing the ball when we had overlaps (mostly).
Ioan & Joe F did the best piece of clearing out that I’ve seen for a while. They arrived at the breakdown with one Exmouth player protecting the ball; they looked at the guy, looked at each other, then bound on to each other & drove the opposition completely off the ball. What a wonderful sight to see!! Well done guys.
Sam, great to see you & Tully fighting for the ball in all the breakdown areas.
Jayden had another outstanding game, in both defence & clearing out. The body positioning is SO much better & great to see.
Bryn was absolutely outstanding once again, ripping the ball off nearly every Exmouth player, tackling like a demon & clearing out everything in the rucks & mauls. He finished with a tremendous try-saving tackle, again! Great effort Bryn.
Player of the day awards both for defence went to Freddie, & William Reuben. The tackling from these guys was awe-inspiring. Brilliant stuff guys & well done team.
See you on Sunday with Santa hats on ?
