Sunday 4th November
What a match!
WOW!! What a match!!
This was end to end stuff, & for those fortunate enough to be watching must’ve been thinking “Yes, we’re playing Big Boy Rugby now”. There were some absolutely huge hits, fantastic runs down the touch line, & some half decent rucking.
From start to finish it was a real old ding-dong of a match. Frankie, one of the players of the day, had an all-round great day out wide, getting us off the mark in the first few minutes, & providing solid meat in the rucks, with his great body position, well done Frankie.
From there it was see saw stuff, real tit-for-tat! Nobody wanted to give an inch away!
Unfortunately in the end, Ivybridge came out on top by 1 try.
There were calls of “but the ref was cheating!”, & blah blah blah...
Yes the ref missed a couple of things, but he also let us off a couple of things too!
Refs can’t see everything & can only do their best.
But as I’ve said, plenty of times, if we had made all of our tackles, or got lower in the rucks, or passed the ball out when we had the overlap, things would’ve been different. We are a team, not individuals trying to play for ourselves. We play for each other.
Felix was an outstanding leader on the pitch, & was very authoritative & decisive, tackling & running hard all day, capping off a great match for him.
Archie had a huge game, predominantly on defence where he didn’t stop all day long. His technique in stopping their powerful runners running full-tilt at him, saved our line from being breached even more. If Archie, as one of our bigger players, can drop low enough to get his shoulder cheek-to-cheek for his tackles, I think we all should be able to. Technically very solid Archie, well done!
Nate, as always seems to be the case against Ivybridge, was throwing his body everywhere in the rucks, mauls, & general play. Another to do some damage while defending including the hit “that was heard in the clubhouse “, & the desperation try-saving ankle tap! A well deserved Coaches Award.
Finlay & Ioan both came close to scoring in the dying minutes but it wasn’t to be.
But what a great match. Well played everyone. This is the level we need to stay at. Absolutely outstanding play by you all, well done!
See you all on Sunday,
Just a footnote to say we all wish Harlan a speedy recovery with his busted ankle ?
