Topsham turn over league leaders.

With the (now apparently customary) availability issues Topsham managed to secure a bare 15 players, and held out little hope for a visit to the high flying Tiverton.

However, these concerns were misplaced as Topsham played out of their skins for a superb victory.

The game started with Tiverton coming out of the blocks quickly and pinning Topsham in their own 22 for a good 20 minutes. Topsham's defence held fast however and they even managed a breakaway try through Eddie Roberts after some good hassle defence from (stand in back rower) Robert Busby. Tim Taylor converted.

Almost immediately though Tiverton hit back after a couple of missed Topsham tackles, to level the scores.

Topsham then found their groove and were soon ahead again when some good ruck work in-front of the posts allowed skipper Olly Scott to barge over the whitewash. Half time score Topsham 12-7 Tiverton.

The second half was predominantly all Topsham as the forwards got their quick rucking game going and linked well with the backs. A solid scrum and good hands through the backline allowed Danny Bell to score in the corner, a try which Taylor converted.

The points started to come in quick succession with another try from Olly Scott who took a quick tap penalty and was allowed to score untouched by the Tiverton defence. Taylor again converted.

Roly Stone played a big part in the days final two tries, burrowing over from short range to score one himself then feeding his skipper from a quick tap free kick who in turn shipped the ball to Tim Taylor who finished in the corner.

Final score Topsham 36-7 Tiverton.

The level of this win can not be underestimated for Topsham, given the player availability issues of late. This was a superb performance of attacking flair and defensive grit.

Man of the match goes to openside flanker Tanzy Lees who was, quite simply, everywhere!

Final mention goes to Topsham prop John Tyas who, in the games dying minutes suffered, what has since been diagnosed as, a broken Tibia and Fibula. He currently awaits surgery in hospital. Get well soon John!
