2's off the mark in grand style.

Topsham 2nd XV finally got their Merit Table campaign on track with a good win over higher placed visitors South Molton.

The game started with the, predicted, forwards battle ensuing, both sides attacking through their sizeable packs.

Topsham were the first to break through with Josh Bray powering over after some quick thinking when a planned back row scrum move broke down.

However, South Molton soon hit back to reduce their deficit. Topsham were soon ahead again after some good lineout work enabled Robbie James to open his seasons scoring account from close range.

This left the half time score with Topsham clutching a slender 12-5 lead.

Tops upped their game in the second half, dominating the forward battle allowing Darren Davies to extend their lead.

Molton struck back however, when a contentious decision and quickly taken tap penalty catching Topsham napping to reduce the deficit.

Topsham emptied the remainder of their subs bench with 15 minutes to go and this paid dividends as replacement Carl Anderson scores two quick tries to add some gloss to a solid performance and win from Topsham with a final score of 31-10, Tim Taylor having converted three of the teams scores, he was also unlucky to hit the post with an earlier penalty kick.

A weeks break from the league now as Topsham 2nd XV play an 'Old Boys' side as part of the new clubhouse opening celebrations, but will be back in league action the following week- with other, recent results, meaning the entire Merit Table is wide open.
