This was the seventh away game the seconds have had from nine games and proved to be a happy trip.
Ollie Scott stepped in as captain as Andy Hore has a back injury. Ollie led from the front.
The winning of the toss is important at Torrington with their slope, needless to say this was lost, however this did not effect the outcome.
Playing with the slope in the first half, Topsham started the game and forced Torrington to play the first opening moment within their half. Topsham forwards worked hard against what looked a heavier pack, keeping pressure on the opposition and at times pushed them back in the set pieces. Our lineouts worked well with James Clark and Robbie James conrtrolling our throwins.
On a rare visit into the Topsham half, Torrington took the lead from a moment of oppotunity. From a ruck on the 2nds twenty two won by the host side, the ball was passed back to a centre, who promptly took a drop kick from 40mtrs, the ball, wind assisted, passed through the post giving the home team the lead. In amazement, Topsham restarted the game. Normal service resumed and all the hard work the forwards were doing was rewarded from a scrum on the 5mtr line when Ollie Scott picked up at the base of the set piece and go over to give Topsham the lead. The kick was missed. The rest of the half continued with forwards slugging it out with very little backs involvement. Topsham turning round 5pts to 3pts.
In the second half, now defending the slope, a long half was expected.
This did not materialise as the momentum was with Topsham and the majority was in the home side half with forwards remaining to work hard and gain ground when the opportunity arose. This half saw Topsham backs have more of the ball and forwards and backs were working well together. The home side defending very rarely broke into Topshams half.
All the hard work the forwards were doing were again rewarded with a score from a maul on the oppositions goal line which saw John Richards touch down.
Topsham remained in control throughout the remainder of the second half and ran out worthy winners through their hard work with a winning score of 10 pts to 3 pts.
Debuts were given to Deigo Hernides and Jed Towers, and thanks were given to Rob Busby for trying to take the place kicks.
