The fixtures have not been kind for our seconds,in the six opening games, five have been away without much joy. However things changed with the visit to Sidmouth playing their thirds.
In the first half with Topsham playing up the slope both sides began brightly and from a maul in the opening miutes it was Sidmouth who opened the scoring with a penalty. Within five minutes Topsham replied with a well worked try by Josh Hawley. Topsham were now taking control with their forwards gaining the upper hand, mainly driven on by Ollie Scott. From this good work, Topsham went further ahead by Mike Forward crossing the line with his first try for the club. Mat Coxon completed the conversion. The forwards kept up the pressure and with sloppy play and good scavaging Andy Hore found the ball at his feet to fall over to score his second try of his career. Simouth did not give up and forcing a further penalty from Topsham reduced the arreares and the half closed with Topsham leading 15pts to 6pts.
Now with the slope, Topsham did not start well and the host team got into the twenty two causing Topsham to give away another penalty, yet again reducing the gap. This woke Topsham and they began to regain control and after a period of open play, Darren Davies crossed the line to extend Topshams lead. Now the trys came at regular intervals with the homes defence being broken by Bill Gates, Tim Taylor and Matt Coxon with two trys, and converting two also. Sidmouth had a further penalty giving them 12 pts but Topsham ended the game with a well deserved win 46pts to 12pts.
