Topsham Ladies v Newton Abbot Barbarians Final score 36-15

Saturday 21st January saw Topsham Ladies retain the Lily Partridge Memorial cup against Newton Abbott Barbarian’s team in the annual memorial game.

Rebecca Partridge got the scoreboard rolling after just a few minutes. After a great break from Dawn Latham Mahoney she offloaded the ball out of the tackle to the supporting runner, Rebecca Partridge to score her first of 3 tries, successfully converted by Captain Ann-Marie McIntyre. The second try of the game came shortly after from April Windle who barreled over from close range. Minutes later, another try this time from a set piece. Topsham had the scrum just inside the oppositions half, a strong pick up and carry down the blindside saw Topsham in the opposition 22 and with a couple quick clear outs and quick hands, club captain Katie Lunnon dived over from short range to claim her first try for Topsham. Converted by Ann-Marie McIntyre (19-0). Newton Abbot went on the offensive for a while, worked there way to within 10 meters of Topsham’s line, only for Tasha Currie to strip them of the ball, pass to the winger Chloe Savin, who showed incredible pace to run the length of the pitch untouched to score her first of the season (24-0). Conversion missed.

The second half saw another barrage of tries from Topsham. Rebecca Partridge showing great feet and pace adding 2 to complete her hat trick. April Windle showing good strength to shrug of 3 tacklers before going through a gap to dot down for her second and Tasha Currie showing great sportsmanship to gift Holly Feller a try while already over the try line. Corinne Walsh this time converting 2 of the 4 tries. Newton Abbot Barbarians did get 1 try also for their efforts. Their ever present outside centre who had made the trek from St Mary’s Old Boys Ladies (who Topsham host next Sunday) went on a storming run to score in the corner.

The Forward of the Match trophy was split between Topsham’s Meg Coombes and Tash Currie.
