£10,000 raised at TRFC Fundraising Ball

The TRFC Ball Committee are delighted to report back that the June Rugby Ball was a great success, not only in raising funds for the club but also everyone who attended had a fabulous evening!

Thank you to all the members and friends who purchased tickets, donated prizes and helped us set up.

We greatly appreciate your generous donations towards the 2018 Topsham RFC June Ball. After months of planning, organising and hard work, it was great to see the marquee set up and ready to be transformed. The week leading up to the ball saw a flurry of activity, from collecting prizes, plants (donated by Urban and Rural Plants) and balloons to liaising with local suppliers for the delivery and preparation of the food and drink. This included creating and printing of the tickets and brochures which were sponsored by St Peter’s School, Lympstone. On the day of the ball, it was all hands on deck as the furniture was set up, tables were dressed (sponsorship for this gratefully received by Threshold Financial Services and Vernon Windows) and the club was transformed into a venue fit for black tie and glamorous dresses! The ball celebrated our rugby heritage and was decorated in Topsham rugby colours (kindly sponsored by Westerly BMW), with a nod to all our wonderful sponsors past and present.
The evening began with drinks (sponsored by St. Austell Brewery) and canapes (sponsored by Hart Catering) on the lawn in the glorious sunshine, until MC Graham Smith called everyone to take their seats. The ‘Heads & Tails’ game got everyone into the mood, with The Galley Restaurant of Topsham kindly donating lunch to the winner.
Clive Banks, Junior Chairman, welcomed everyone and presented the ‘Club Champions’ awards, firstly to Graham Smith for his dedication to the club over many years, coaching and including fixtures secretary for the past five years. Secondly, the award was presented to Dave Maclellan for his part in the success of coaching his U7s team right through to Colts and then transitioned into Senior Men’s team rugby players. Finally, to John Carroll for his commitment to the club as Junior and Senior Treasurer, also instigating the development of the Topsham RFC ‘Walking Rugby’ team, which attracts both men and women who are keen to get outdoors, meet people and keep fit. They train and play on a regular basis and attend tournaments around the country.
Everyone enjoyed the sumptuous three-course meal, cooked by Kim Vernon and her team using locally sourced produce, including meat from The Butcher’s at Darts Farm, eggs from Rosamondford Farm and Devon Fire Chutney from Otter Vale. After dinner treats were provided by The Adult Chocolate Company and water from Tarka Springs.
In-between courses, auctioneer Graham Smith, got everyone to dig deep into their pockets and bid for the amazing auction prizes on offer and encourage people to visit the wonderful array of silent auction prizes on offer. Lots of tickets were sold in the food & fizz raffle. Again, thank you to all who donated such amazing prizes for our auction & raffle which made a great amount of money for the club.
Much fun was had by all over the evening, the live band ‘Bootleggers Turn’ (sponsored by Jones & Son) and DJ (sponsored by Estuary Lettings) got everyone dancing. Guests enjoyed whizzing around the Dodgems (sponsored by Bottleman Recycling) and riding (or trying to ride!) the Rodeo Rugby Ball (provided by Exeter Bouncy Castles, sponsored by Sykes Fairburn).

We thank you very much for your continued support.
